The subject of International Law has gone through tremendous evolution in both substantive and institutional terms. There is virtually no area of international interest, which is not, one way or the other, governed by international law. While the subject was initially conceived of as a tool to govern the relations among States, it has now developed into an impenetrable web of rules and institutions that address and govern non-State actors, such as international organizations and even the individual.
Moreover, when it comes to CSS, it is one of the subjects which consistently yield good scores. Actually, it’s the beauty of International Law that it always awards high marks, if candidates put sincere efforts and work hard. It is also to be noted here that the study of this subject not only broadens your understanding of the global political scenario, it also helps you while preparing for the Current Affairs paper.
Through recent revision of syllabus, the FPSC has defined the contents of International Law. It is heartening to note that the new syllabus is in consonance with the contemporary developments that are taking place across the globe.
Coming back to the point, I think given these changes, the subject, if combined with Political Science or International Relations and other subjects like British History and Geography, can be a recipe for securing excellent marks. I think opting for this subject is almost indispensable especially for those who aspire to be a part of the Foreign Service of Pakistan.
Now, as far as the availability of the right study material is concerned, I would advise that the students must go for those books which have been written exactly according to the new syllabus, and also provide the stuff which examiners want to see on answer sheets. To this regard, it is a matter of great honour for me that almost every topic of the new CSS syllabus of International Law is already present in my book entitled “International Law” (Second Edition) published by Jahangir Books. Although, no substantial changes were required to be made to the book, yet for the greater benefit of the CSS aspirants, I have incorporated some so that they may fortify their preparations from all aspects. I believe the book is now more than sufficient to prepare and coup up the difficulties Students are facing while studying the International law.
