The Importance of TOEIC

TOEIC was developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS), the same company that developed the TOEFL. This test has the advantage of being inexpensive, objective and fast.

The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is a standardised, paper-and-pencil test to judge the ability of non-native speakers to use English in everyday activities. This test is designed to assess the language ability of the candidates who want to study or work in the countries where English is the primary language of communication. It is also required for admissions in universities in UK and other English-speaking countries.

TOEIC was developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS) which designed TOEIC anew to be a good predictor of English language skills. ETS have added a TOEIC Speaking and Writing Test to augment the useful information; a corporation may need to assess the competency of a job applicant. So technically, one should be prepared to showcase all four skills in English.

In today’s world, TOEIC is the most widely conducted test of English language skills with more than 4 million test takers across the globe and over 10,000 organisations in 120 countries throughout the world trust the TOEIC test. Multinational corporations, government agencies and a large number of institutions use the results of this test to recruit the employees. If you work or want to work for a large organisation, then the TOEIC test will be enormously useful to you.

Nowadays, TOEIC is gaining huge importance in Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) recommended all public sector universities and degree awarding institutions to implement TOEIC for the appointment of faculty members and awarding of degrees. ETS has appointed National Testing Service (NTS), Pakistan as ETS Preferred Associates (EPA) to market, distribute, sell and administer the following TOEIC tests in Pakistan:

The TOEIC test Listening & Reading:
It is designed for English-language learners at the beginner and intermediate levels. Test results provide proficiency levels and help test takers track their progress in and set goals for improving their English-language skills.

The TOEIC speaking and writing test:
It offers a common standard of measurement for comparing the language skills as it directly assesses the ability of non-native speakers of English to speak and write in English in the global workplace.
