Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood has said the youth is a potential change agent for the development of nation and the need is to channelise the energies of youth comprising 63 per cent of country’s population.
Mr Mashhood was speaking at an MoU signing ceremony between Lahore College for Women University’s mass communication department and Plan International, Pakistan, on varsity campus in Lahore.
He said the Punjab government was hopeful that educational institutions like LCWU and Plan International could create awareness among youth.
Now we need to move together for the development of nation and eradication of corruption to give a peaceful and developed land to our next generation’ he said.
The MoU was signed by LCWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor and Plan International-Pakistan country director Rashid Javed.
The MoU was aimed at the capacity building of young journalists on adolescents issues. At the ceremony, varsity’s first e-Newsletter LCWU Hub was also launched.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCWU vice-chancellor said the initiative of the public and private sector would be quite fruitful for the development of youth. ‘Our vision of year 2020 is to produce moderate and enlightened graduates to contribute towards the national development and it gels well with the vision of Plan International Pakistan’ she said.
The VC stressed that the Pakistani media needed to focus on solution to problems instead of creating panic among masses.
She requested Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly to give more facilities to the youth for recreation. Towards the end she thanked Plan International and promised full cooperation of LCWU and congratulated Dr. Anjum Zia, HoD of Mass Communication and her team and students.
Rasheed Javed, Country Director of Plan International addressing at the occasion highlighted the link between Department of Mass Communication LCWU and Plan International while stressing the need of capacity building of young journalists. He expressed his happiness while saying that the provincial government of Punjab realizes the importance of youth and with the help of Plan International the youth will go forward raising their voices for Adolescent issues..
Dr. Irfan from Plan International introduced the Plan International to the audience.
Mr. Iftikhar Mubarik showed a documentary and talked about Adolescents issues in Pakistan.
Dr. Anjum Zia, Head of Mass Communication delivered her welcome address.
Absar Abdul Ali, Director of Hameed Nizami Press Institute along Deans, HoDs, faculty members and students of LCWU, and eminent guests from media and Development sector were also present at the occasion.
