Hence, pr\u00e9cis writing means the art of summarizing. It is one of the most useful skills you should acquire for your work both as a student and as a professional. Pr\u00e9cis writing involves summarizing a document to extract the maximum amount of information, then conveying this information to a reader in minimum words.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Definition<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A pr\u00e9cis is a clear, compact logical summary of a passage. It preserves only the essential or important ideas of the original.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Qualities of a Good Pr\u00e9cis<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A good pr\u00e9cis shows the writing skills of a person. A pr\u00e9cis should be complete in all respects. Conciseness means to write all that needs to be written, no more! While writing a pr\u00e9cis, do follow the below-given rules to make it an effective piece of work.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Read Carefully<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">First read the passage twice or thrice carefully to summarize it. This will enable you to understand the main theme of the passage.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Underlining<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Underline and mark the important ideas and essential points from the original text.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Outline<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the help of underlined ideas, draw the outline of your pr\u00e9cis.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Omission<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Omit all the unnecessary information or the long phrases which could be replaced by one word. All the adjectives and the adverbs can also be omitted in order to make a good pr\u00e9cis.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Don\u2019t Omit<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While making a pr\u00e9cis, the writer should never omit the important points and ideas which are essential to be described.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Size<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Keep in your mind all along that the length of the pr\u00e9cis should be one-third of the original passage.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> Indirect Speech<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A pr\u00e9cis should be written in indirect speech. He led a peaceful life and wanted no change.
