Jahangir’s World Times (JWT): First of all, please tell us about your educational background?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Muhammad Hassaan Ahsan (MHA):<\/strong><\/span> I was born and raised in Lahore. I completed O and A levels from the same city. Thereafter, I did LLB Honours from University of London.<\/p>\n

JWT: What feature of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) attracted you most?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/span><\/strong> Job diversity and participation in policymaking at the highest echelons attracted me most.<\/p>\n

JWT: How much helpful did you find Jahangir’s World Times (JWT) during your preparation? And, how was your experience at the World Times Institute?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/span> <\/strong>JWT is a beacon of light for CSS aspirants. It is rendering invaluable services for the candidates of competitive exams.<\/p>\n

As regards my experience at WTI, it was intellectually rewarding, to say the least.<\/p>\n

JWT: What, in your opinion, is the key to making a difference in written part of CSS exam?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/span> <\/strong>One should widen one’s resource base, make comparisons and draw conclusions, one’s perception of reality should lie between utopia and dystopia as inclination toward either leads to a flawed thesis.<\/p>\n

JWT: Generally, compulsory subjects are considered low-scoring, what was your strategy to get through these very papers?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong><\/span> Paying equal attention to all compulsory subjects was the most important plank in my strategy to tackle compulsory subjects.<\/p>\n

JWT: What were the toughest and the easiest parts in the whole process of CSS exam?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong> <\/span>Making routine for studies was tough while Current Affairs was relatively easy.<\/p>\n

\"In<\/a>JWT: Anything important about your CSS journey you want to share with the aspirants?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong> <\/span>My CSS journey was punctuated with trials and tribulations, but I was able to stay on course by dint of consistent hard work<\/p>\n

JWT: How answers should be written to get maximum marks?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong> <\/span>They should be properly structured and well-analysed. The material should be supported with relevant statistics, quotations, book references, etc.<\/p>\n

JWT: Should there be some word limit kept in mind while writing answers?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong> <\/span>Around 6 sides is a decent length, in my opinion. It goes without saying that quality trumps quantity.<\/p>\n

JWT: How did you structure your Essay?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong><\/span> It was coherent and organized. The flow of ideas was lucid and logical.<\/p>\n

JWT: How did you handle de-motivations, in any?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong> <\/span>Follow Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rules of success. Don’t listen to the naysayers!<\/p>\n

JWT: How a new aspirant should start his\/her preparation for CSS exam?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

MHA:<\/strong><\/span> S(he) should consult quality newspapers and magazines to start with.

Tips on:\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Selection of optional subjects\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

They should be selected keeping in mind the scoring trend and the aptitude of the aspirant.<\/p>\n

Notes-making<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Skeleton notes can be helpful as a revision tool.<\/p>\n

Revision<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

One should spare at least 2 to 3 months for revision.

My advice for fresh aspirants<\/span><\/h2>\n

Broaden your horizons and inculcate a spirit of inquiry in you.

My Interview Experience<\/span><\/h2>\n

I was mostly asked questions on Current Affairs and issues related to my area of expertise i.e. Law. The key to getting through the interview is to hold your nerves and answer questions in an objective manner.<\/p>\n
